Horticultural terms
Annual- a plant which completes it's lifecycle within one year eg.sunflower.
Biennial- a plant which completes it's lifecycle within two yearseg eg.foxglove.
Bud - an undeveloped stem or flower.
Bulb - a compact stem with fleshy leaves in which food is stored eg.daffodil.
Genus - genus name is in Latin, begins with a capital letter and represents a group of plants with similar characteristics.
Node - the point on a stem from which the leaf grows.
Pruning- removing dead,damaged and diseased growth to maintain health of plant.Control the shape and size of the plant or increase yield of fruit and flowers.
Species - species name is in Latin,begins with small letter and represents a sub group of plants within a genus which can reproduce with each other and share similar characteristics.
Variety - a naturally occuring variety of a plant eg. Fagus sylvatica purpurea.
