First Generation (Worthing)
Topic outline
-
Joining the scheme entitles you to extra support from these universities, including trips, visits and often lowered or guaranteed offers and interviews. There is also the potential for substantial financial support for students when they go to university.
Guaranteed offers
The local universities with which we have compacts and accords will provide students with guaranteed offers of places in the majority of courses, subject to them gaining the course entry requirements. In some cases they will ask students for lower grades in order to get on to courses.
Bursaries
Universities will provide substantial bursaries to some students subject to meeting certain requirements.
- There are also opportunities for students to take up employment opportunities with the universities alongside their studies. For example, many students go on to work as student ambassadors, providing outreach support to local schools and colleges.
Enrichment Opportunities
Taster Days. Universities run taster days in a wide range of subjects to give students the experience of studying those courses at university.
Bespoke workshops, lectures & masterclasses. University staff frequently visit the college to deliver lectures and presentations to specific subject areas. Students can attend a range of classes at local universities which have been created specifically for first generation students.
Summer Schools. These are fantastic opportunities to spend a week at university over the summer holiday, living in halls, studying a particular subject, meeting new friends and experiencing the reality of university life.
